In recent weeks, a variety of stars – from Mo Gilligan and Jack Grealish to Idris Elba and Sylvester Stallone – have revealed daily skincare routines, the latter using NIVEA’s products. However, new findings from NIVEA MEN reveal a stigma around men’s self-care routines – including skincare. I wanted to gauge your interest in a feature piece on the report / a section of the report. In the bumper report (here), NIVEA MEN investigated various aspects of a man’s skincare journey, how it impacts their confidence, and how and why they begin to look after their skin.
Insights Include:
- · 56% of men in the UK confirm that they have an existing skincare regime
- · 55% of men find applying skincare products important to make them feel more confident
- · 43% state that the advice of a medical or skin expert is the most persuasive thing that would drive men to buy a skincare product
- · 59% want to learn how to build a personal skincare routine
- · 30% cite good genetics as a reason not to use skincare products
- · 65% of respondents aged 35 and above would do more to slow down the signs of ageing if they were given the option to go back in time and course-correct
- · 30% want to use more skincare products – but are lost when it comes to knowing what to buy
- · 20% believe sun protection is only needed on hot sunny days – rendering them vulnerable for most of the year
- · 69% of men view their skincare routine as an essential part of being a man
The report also includes a foreword and insights from NIVEA MEN’s mental health advocate and professional footballer, Troy Deeney.
Troy says, “A skincare routine? For men? You must be mental!” That was my mentality as a younger man, and I’m sure a lot of other men may agree. I don’t have time, do I? What products are good? What products are rubbish? These were the questions that bounced around my head for years.
I’ve now got a morning and night time self-care routine. It’s not just changed my physical appearance, with visibly clearer skin, but it’s also improved my self-confidence too.”
