Sitting back and enjoying a great film is one of the best ways to spend an evening. Going to a theater, grabbing some snacks, and loosing yourself for 2 hours is a great way to relax after a long week. If you are looking to unwind after your week this weekend, there are some films premiering you can check out.
Looking for a laugh and a bit of gore? There is no choice better than Marjane Satrapi’s dark comedy The Voices. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as a happy, innocent, mentally ill man who refuses to take his medication and begins to believe that his cat, Mr. Whiskers, is urging him to kill. He reluctantly becomes a serial killer, but after a bit he begins to take his medication once again and realizes the severity of his reality. Alongside Reynolds, the films cast includes Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton, and Jacki Weaver. The film originally premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on 19 January 2014 and will be making its theatrical debut in the UK on Tuesday, 24 March 2015.
For all the adrenalin junkies out there, Simon West’s Wild Card, an adaptation of the 1985 novel Heat by William Goldman, should satisfy the craving. While there was a previous adaptation from 1986 that starred Burt Reynolds, West has chosen to have action all-star Jason Statham as recovering gambling addict and lead man Nick Wild. Statham lives up to his reputation as an action star, running about Las Vegas confronting gangsters and dealing with his addiction. The film’s cast also includes SofÃa Vergara, Stanley Tucci, Milo Ventimiglia, and Hope Davis, so for anyone looking for a fast-paced thriller, Wild Card is the perfect choice.
While action and dark comedy are two phenomenal film genres, there is nothing wrong with wanting to catch an adorable, animated feature. DreamWorks Animation will be releasing the buddy comedy on 27 March 2015, following the adventures between Tip, a teenage girl, and Oh, a banished alien from a distant planet. When the Boov, an optimistic alien race take over Earth, Tip manages to avoid becoming captured and befriends Oh, a banished Boov who has accidentally released his people’s whereabouts to their enemies. Pop sensation Rihanna voices Tip, while her lovable companion is voiced by The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons. The stellar cast also includes Jennifer Lopez, Steve Martin, and Matt L. Jones.
All three films look to be promising, so what better way to spend you weekend than heading to your local movie theatre and catching a new film.
