Minecraft is officially stepping out of the screen and into the real world, with Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios revealing new details about the upcoming Minecraft World at Chessington World of Adventures Resort.
Following the original announcement earlier this year, the companies have now unveiled the Minecraft World Hotel, which is set to become the world’s first Minecraft-themed hotel, alongside the name of the first-ever Minecraft rollercoaster: Escape the Nether.
Both are scheduled to open at Chessington in 2027, giving Minecraft fans the opportunity to spend an entire day exploring the game-inspired theme park land before continuing their adventure overnight.
The latest details were revealed during Minecraft LIVE, with new construction footage showing Minecraft World taking shape at Chessington.
Minecraft World Hotel Will Bring the Game to Life!
The new Minecraft World Hotel will feature 69 Minecraft-themed rooms across four floors, made up of 20 premium rooms and 49 standard rooms.
The design will draw inspiration from Minecraft’s instantly recognisable biomes, characters, mobs, colours, textures and blocks, with the hotel intended to make guests feel as though they have stepped directly into the game.
From the moment visitors arrive, the Minecraft theme will continue throughout the hotel.
The lobby will feature blocky trees and animals inspired by the Overworld, while Nether Portal-inspired lifts and mine tunnel corridors will help transform simply finding your bedroom into part of the adventure.
And, naturally, the bedrooms will serve as each guest’s Minecraft “respawn point”.
The rooms will incorporate familiar Minecraft blocks, items, mobs, textures and colours, creating an environment designed to appeal to both dedicated Minecraft players and families discovering the game for the first time.
According to the official Chessington Minecraft World website, the hotel will also feature themed corridors inspired by mineshafts, with guests encouraged to keep an eye out for diamonds along the way.
An Underwater Restaurant and Potion-Themed Bar!
The Minecraft experience won’t stop when guests leave their rooms.
The hotel will feature an immersive restaurant inspired by Minecraft’s underwater ocean biomes, allowing guests to dine surrounded by an environment inspired by the game’s underwater worlds.
There will also be a bar themed around the Woodland Mansion, where guests can enjoy colourful drinks inspired by Minecraft potions.
The result is intended to make the hotel feel less like somewhere to simply sleep after a day at the theme park and more like an extension of Minecraft World itself.
As the official Minecraft World site puts it, the adventure doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down.
Escape the Nether Is Coming to Chessington!
While the hotel provides somewhere to sleep, Minecraft World will also feature a major attraction for thrill-seekers.
Escape the Nether has been confirmed as the name of the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster.
The ride will combine indoor and outdoor sections, taking guests on a high-speed journey through the Minecraft universe.
The adventure will begin inside, where riders will travel through dark mines before bursting out of the building through a Nether Portal.
From there, the coaster will emerge into an Overworld-themed area of Minecraft World.
The official Chessington attraction page describes Escape the Nether as a minecart adventure where guests will join Steve and Alex, encounter hostile mobs and make their way back towards the Overworld.
There is also, unsurprisingly for an adventure through the Nether, plenty of lava.
Construction footage released alongside the announcement shows the ride’s track already being installed as Minecraft World continues to take shape.
Minecraft World Will Be More Than Just a Rollercoaster!
Escape the Nether will sit at the heart of a much larger Minecraft-themed area.
Minecraft World is being developed as a fully immersive theme park land, bringing together attractions, interactive experiences, themed dining and retail.
The land is designed to recreate elements of Minecraft’s distinctive environments, including the Overworld, with visitors able to explore areas inspired by the game’s caves, mineshafts and plains.
The official Chessington site describes the project as a chance to “Play Real Life Mode”, with Minecraft fans able to encounter familiar environments and mobs outside of the game itself.
The project is being developed by Merlin Entertainments in partnership with Mojang Studios, bringing one of the world’s biggest gaming franchises into a permanent physical attraction in the UK.
A £50 Million Minecraft Adventure!
Minecraft World is part of a reported £50 million investment at Chessington World of Adventures and represents one of Merlin Entertainments’ major recent theme park developments.
The project was first announced earlier in 2026, with the latest Minecraft LIVE reveal providing the first major update on how the land is progressing.
Daisy Mercedes, Creative Producer at Merlin Entertainments, said:
“We promised something truly special when we announced Minecraft World earlier this year, and with Minecraft World Hotel we are offering even more.”
She added that the hotel would allow fans to experience Minecraft in real life while also sleeping inside the world.
“Every room, corridor and detail has been crafted with immense love for this game, the stories made within it and its community,” Mercedes said.
Filip Keatley-Thoms, Creative Lead for Minecraft Parks and Experiences at Mojang Studios, said the team had considered everything from the scale of the blocks to how mobs and biomes could be brought into the real world.
The aim, he explained, is to create an experience that feels authentically Minecraft while allowing guests to experience the game in a completely different way.
When Does Minecraft World Open?
Minecraft World is scheduled to open at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027, although an exact opening date has not yet been announced.
The project is located in Greater London, with Chessington stating that the resort is around 35 minutes by direct train from London Waterloo.
The Minecraft World Hotel is not yet available to book, with further information expected to be released closer to the opening.
Fans can currently sign up for updates through the official Minecraft World page on Chessington’s website.
For more information about the wider resort, visit Chessington World of Adventures.
Minecraft fans can also keep up with official announcements through Minecraft’s official website and its Minecraft LIVE hub.
With a world-first hotel, a world-first rollercoaster and an entire Minecraft-themed land on the way, 2027 is shaping up to be a particularly big year for fans of the block-building phenomenon.
And yes — there will be beds. No crafting table required.
