Following her explosion onto the pop cultural landscape as the fearless star of the N.E. R. D and Rihanna ‘Lemon’ video, METTE is releasing her much anticipated single, ‘Mama’s Eyes’, through Since 93/Sony Music. Listen here
The track, produced by Barney Lister (Giggs, Obongjayer, Joy Crookes, Olivia Dean) is a euphoric mix of R&B and pop that explores the idea of safety amid chaos, and the duality of loving the freedom and independence of living your dream, while at the same time, yearning for the haven that a mother or mother figure provides.
“I was going through something when lockdown hit. I hadn’t seen my mom for 18 months, and the news coming from America felt particularly panicked. I missed my mom, I felt out of pocket. I wanted to see my mama’s eyes. I have her eyes, I feel mirrored by her, I wanted her strength.”, METTE expressed.
Whilst in the UK for a film project, METTE found kindred, creative spirits who helped her realise that making music was a part of her destiny. “London is the source, it’s the fire that started my musical journey,” she says. “I was like, damn something else is calling me.” Rooted in the fundamental dance rhythms that are an innate part of her DNA, METTE’s sound is an amalgamation of alternative R&B and sticky Pop.
Known as a triple threat (singer / dancer / actress), METTE was a member of Pharrell’s dance squad, The Baes, and also starred as Justice alongside J-Lo in the film Hustlers. If that wasn’t enough, she also recently partnered with Alexander McQueen for their Sprint Runner campaign directed by Grammy Award winner Sophie Muller. Watch it here.
Teeing up excitement for the track launch, METTE was the digital cover of Notion Magazine in December as part of their Ones To Watch for 2023 co-signed by Clara Amfo. She was also placed #1 Ones To Watch artist as part of The Sun’s Something For The Weekend ’23 for 23′.
