Stephen Farey from Chingford will be running his own 26.2 mile marathon after being unable to secure an official place in Sunday’s race. He will be running in memory of Stacey Jean Sargeant who lost her very short battle with bowel cancer last month.
Stacey started experiencing problems in October 2023, she went to the doctors and was referred for a colonoscopy. A few days after Christmas Stacey was hit with the awful news of bowel cancer after that she had more test and they discovered it spread to her Liver.
Stacey was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on 27th December and lost her fight on the 26th March. She leaves behind three beautiful children, Flo, 7, George, 4 & Albert who is just 7 months old, Stacey was still on maternity leave when she passed.
She was training to run in the London marathon this year which led to her being diagnosed after she was experiencing discomfort.Since hearing of her diagnosis in February and when the family launched the go fund me page, Stephen Farey from Chingford has been trying to secure a last minute place for himself to get her the medal she would have received and raise as much for the family as possible in the process.
He’s unfortunately been unsuccessful with a place but has a friend who is willing to donate their medal for Stacey and will be completing 26.2 miles on his own route.
He’s had no training. The point is to signify the fact that Stacey wasn’t given any time to prepare for cancer.
