London College of Fashion celebrates innovation, harnesses technology at BA18 degree show

The London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London’s BA18 degree show on Monday, 4 June highlighted a commitment to innovation by creating a layered and multisensory visual-sonic experience.

“This year’s #LCFBA18 season will bring digital to the fore, presenting a multisensory immersive experience with large scale screens and interactive media allowing viewers to experience LCF talent in bold, inspiring and memorable ways,” said Professor Frances Corner OBE, head of London College of Fashion, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UAL.

The event showcased the graduating class of 2018 from London College of Fashion’s undergraduate design and technology and media and communications courses, and was broadcasted live using 360-degree technology. The show allowed the public to fully engage with the work through a digital display of film and motion capture, combining digital exhibition with a physical catwalk.

London College of Fashion, UAL has always championed the use of digital technology, Corner said, including virtual reality headsets, 3D printing and scanning and setting up the world renowned Digital Anthropology Lab and the Fashion Innovation Agency.

“We are always looking for new ways to invest in our digital future and allow our students to express themselves in new and extraordinary ways,” Corner said.

Some of the work shown included footwear and accessories, jewelry, contour, sportswear, creative direction, and photography. Check out the video below to experience the show and see the talent from this year’s graduating class.
