England forward Beth Mead is the overwhelming favourite to win this year’s Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) award ahead of next month’s annual ceremony.
Bookmakers William Hill have priced the Lioness at odds of just 1-4 to win the 2022 gong, with a huge gap between her and second favourite Harry Kane (12-1).

Mead has had an outstanding year in football playing a crucial part in England winning the Euros scoring five goals and providing six assists during the championships.
That meant she picked up three individual awards in the Golden Boot, Top assist provider and Player of the tournament. She also finished runner-up to Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas in the Ballon D’or Feminin race.
Even with the men’s World Cup in Qatar still to come, Harry Kane would have to do something very special to catch up to Mead in the odds market. Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan is just behind Kane with odds of 14-1 after sealing his fourth Champion of Champions title this year.
He is followed by another Lionesses star Alessia Russo, who much like Mead was a crucial part in England lifting the trophy last summer. The Manchester United forward is priced at 20-1 and is just ahead of Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, who gets odds of 25-1.
