Relationship hopefuls open to meeting the one on TV might be disappointed that ITV’s Take Me Out has been axed after 11 years on screen, as the dating show is revealed as the most effective at getting its contestants down the aisle, according to new research.

The study from leading savings site, VoucherCodes.co.uk, analysed the total number of marriages and children that have resulted from contestants successfully pairing up on a range of popular UK dating shows, and finds that Take Me Out‘s eight weddings over the course of its 11 series run is better than any other dating programme.

Averaging 0.73 weddings per series, the long-running show, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, edges out fellow ITV hit, Love Island, which has resulted in an average of 0.60 weddings from its five completed seasons.

However, when it comes to bringing new life into the world, Love Island‘s ‘coupling up’ process is more efficient – the resulting 0.60 babies born per series is more productive than Take Me Out (0.55) and any other show analysed.

Ranking of most weddings per series of popular UK dating shows:

TV show Total number of weddings Total number of babies born Series Weddings per series Babies born per series
Take Me Out 8 6 11 0.73 0.55
Love Island 3 3 5 0.60 0.60
First Dates 4 3 12 0.33 0.25
Blind Date 4 4 19 0.21 0.21
The Undateables 2 0 10 0.20 0.00
Dinner Date 1 1 10 0.10 0.10
The Batchelor UK 0 0 6 0.00 0.00
Naked Attraction 0 0 5 0.00 0.00
Man-o-Man 0 0 2 0.00 0.00

While Blind Date and First Dates have also produced their fair share of marriages (four each), both programmes have been playing the field a lot longer than Love Island, so they don’t measure up as well in the efficiency stakes. Three of the nine shows analysed though, have led to no weddings or new-borns, so should be avoided by those looking for something a little more long-term.

Anita Naik, Lifestyle Editor at VoucherCodes.co.uk commented: “With no more Take Me Out, some singletons may be wondering how they’re going to find love. But, even the most effective of dating shows still have a pretty low strike rate.

“If you’ve been lucky enough to meet Mr or Mrs ‘Right’ away from the television screens, make sure you take advantage of these top tips to get your dream wedding on a budget – with advice on everything from flowers to bridalwear it’ll get you a camera-ready day without the luxe price.”
