LEGO BRINGS THE GOONIES BACK TO LIFE WITH A NOSTALGIC NEW SET AND KE HUY QUAN REUNION

The LEGO Group has once again tapped into the power of nostalgia — this time teaming up with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to unveil the LEGO Ideas The Goonies set, a 2,912-piece diorama designed for adult fans and collectors. Inspired by the beloved 1985 adventure film The Goonies, this set is a treasure trove of cinematic memories built brick by brick.

To celebrate the launch, LEGO partnered with Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan, who famously played Data in the original film. In a brand-new mini-film, Quan revisits his iconic role, guiding fans through the set’s intricate booby traps and hidden easter eggs. The short pays homage to the heart and adventure that made The Goonies a timeless classic. You can watch the mini-film and relive the magic on LEGO’s official site.

A Treasure Worth Building

The diorama features intricate recreations of the film’s most memorable locations — from the Fratellis’ hideout and mysterious caves to One-Eyed Willy’s legendary treasure room. Flip the model to reveal the haunting wreckage of the Inferno pirate ship, all designed with an incredible level of detail.

The set includes 12 key minifigures, including Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, Andy, and of course, Data himself. Brand-new design elements were created exclusively for the release — such as Sloth’s pirate hat and bandana, and Mama Fratelli’s hair and beret.

Reflecting on his return, Ke Huy Quan said:

“Revisiting Data after all these years — but this time in LEGO form — has been such a joyful experience. The Goonies was all about heart, adventure, and friendship, and this set captures that spirit perfectly. From the booby traps to the treasure room, it’s like stepping back into the tunnels with the gang — only now, I get to share that magic with a whole new generation of fans.”

Built by Fans, for Fans

This new release originated from the LEGO Ideas program, which allows fans to submit their own concepts for potential sets. The Goonies design was created by Greece-based 3D artist Vaggelis Ntezes (LEGO Ideas username: Delusion Brick).

“Growing up in the ’80s, I played with LEGO Pirates and watched The Goonies endlessly,” Ntezes said. “Combining nostalgia, fantasy, and creativity, I wanted to build something that offered both playability and display value. Seeing it become a real LEGO set is a dream come true.”

Hidden Details for True Goonies Fans

Builders can drop boulders, activate trapdoors using the Copper Bones Skeleton Key, and even play the Skeleton Organ — but beware of hitting the wrong note! Other nostalgic nods include Data’s utility belt, Mouth’s hairbrush, and even a reference to the infamous deleted octopus scene.
