Prime Video has officially confirmed that Elle, the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series, will premiere on 1 July, streaming exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Even before its debut, the platform has shown major confidence in the show by greenlighting a second season.
Produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, Elle revisits the early life of one of cinema’s most beloved characters, charting the formative years of Elle Woods long before she strutted into Harvard Law.
A Coming-of-Age Story for an Iconic Character
Set during Elle Woods’ high school years, Season One explores the personal experiences, relationships and defining moments that shaped the character audiences first fell in love with in the original Legally Blonde film. The series promises a heartfelt coming-of-age story rooted in optimism, confidence and self-belief — themes that made Elle Woods a cultural icon in the first place.
Reese Witherspoon, who famously portrayed Elle in the original films and now serves as an executive producer, shared her excitement about the project.
“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” said Witherspoon. “Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career.”
She added that the series’ focus on kindness, authenticity and believing in yourself will resonate with both long-time fans and newcomers alike.
Prime Video Confirms Season Two Ahead of Launch
Amazon MGM Studios has already committed to a second season, signalling strong confidence in the show’s creative direction. Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, explained the early renewal.
“Elle captures the heart, confidence and optimism that made Elle Woods an enduring cultural icon, while giving audiences a fresh and deeply personal coming-of-age story,” Friedlander said.
The renewal also reflects Prime Video’s continued investment in premium, character-driven storytelling, joining the streamer’s growing slate of hit series such as The Boys, Reacher and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Creative Team Behind Elle
The series was created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon executive produces through Hello Sunshine, alongside Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown.
Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directed the first two episodes of Season One and also acts as an executive producer, bringing his signature balance of humour and heart to the series.
