ITALY RENAISSANCE KIT CELEBRATES A NEW WAVE OF AZZURI TALENT

Revived from the archives  for a new generation, PUMA Football has created a green kit for Italy’s national team which takes inspiration from the Renaissance period to celebrate the New Wave of talent rising to prominence in Italy on and off the pitch.

The kit marks a new era for the Italian national team as a New Wave of young and exciting players are coming to prominence in the national team (12 players of the current squad are aged 25 or under). Featuring patterns inspired by Renaissance-era fabrics and architecture, the kit’s green color dates back to the ‘Maglia Verde’ (green jersey) worn during the Azzurri’s 2-0 win against Argentina in December 1954 at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

Historically the full national team used the green jersey for only one game, but the youth teams subsequently adopted the color as their home kit. The iconic Azzurri blue remained exclusive to the full national team and was used as motivation for youth players to earn the right to wear the jersey.

The new jersey features an all-over Renaissance-inspired graphic – a celebration of Italy’s culture past, present and future. The kit is part of a larger Renaissance graphic collection created for the Italian Football Federation to make waves both on the pitch and the street.

The new kit will debut in Italy’s qualifying fixture against Greece at Stadio Olimpico (12 October), where, after winning six wins out of six, Italy chase only one more victory to secure progress to next summer’s tournament.
