IKEA LAUNCHES STANDOUT NEW COLLECTION FOR ITS 80TH ANNIVERSARY

The IKEA Festival at the 2023 Milan Design Week showcases the latest in design and home furnishings, celebrating stories and products around life at home. This year, on its 80th anniversary, IKEA invites visitors to look back at some of the historic products that IKEA has created in response to the zeitgeist of bygone eras, explore the work IKEA is putting in today to improve Life at Home in the years to come, and look ahead to what tomorrow holds.

This is the first look at some of the upcoming collections anticipated to launch within 2023. The reveal at Milan Design week is a sneak peek of what customers can anticipate, with more information on the full collections to be announced closer to the launch.

Vintage furniture is a trend sure to add character and personality within the home. Giving pre-loved items a second lease of life, knowing each item has their own story to tell, adds charm to those special finds.

With this in mind, for its 80th anniversary, IKEA has decided to launch the new exclusive collection, Nytillverkad. IKEA has taken inspiration by delving back into its archives and revisiting those iconic designs that continue to stand the test of time.

The Nytillverkad collection offers a unique take on design that’s simple, functional and playful. Products range from furniture, to bedding and accessories reimagined for the needs of today – from the stackable, space-saving DOMSTEN stool in contemporary colourways, to the iconic KRYPKORNELL pattern incorporated across a variety of affordable home furnishings.

The collection stays true to the original IKEA designs with updated materials, resulting in a range of products that are sure to evoke timeless Scandi style in the home whilst maintaining their functionality.

“At IKEA, the past, the present, and the future are all connected. We’ve designed many functional and beautiful home furnishing products during the last 80 years, and it’s only natural that we get curious about our achievements in the past. With Nytillverkad, we are returning to the future, again. In multiple launches over the next few years, we will release a series of carefully selected products from our design archive, updated to match the bold outlook of the next generation. We are happy to bring back these timeless designs truly appreciated by the customers over the years.”

Annie Leibovitz Shares First Portraits Inspired By The Life at Home Report 2022

The IKEA Life at Home Report 2022 revealed that up to 48% of people do not feel that the reality of their life at home is represented by what they see in the media. During Annie Leibovitz’s tenure as IKEA’s first ever Artist in Residence, she will travel around the world, photographing people in their homes to illuminate the nuances of ‘life at home’, creating a powerful photographic document inspired by the Report.

Italy is the first of seven countries that Leibovitz will visit. A few weeks ago, she captured a moment in time in three people’s homes in Italy – with Giovanni in Milan, Silvia in Piacenza, and Sharon who travels around the country in her camper van.

During Milan Design week, Annie offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse from these first portraits in Italy, as well as sharing a sneak peek of future portraits. Visit the IKEA Life at Home website for all the latest news from Annie’s travels and see what happens when you combine IKEA’s life at home expertise with the lens of a world-renowned photographer.

The Artist in Residence is a new concept for IKEA, designed to inspire creators around the globe to look close to home for inspiration. IKEA believes that artistic collaboration can help shine a light on stories from people who are not always reflected in the media, and is excited to see where this takes us over the coming years.

Elements of the Future

In the Elements of the Future exhibition, visitors can experience an optimistic vision of IKEA’s ongoing journey toward a brighter tomorrow through a spectacular representation of the four elements – earth, water, fire and wind.

The experience hopes to spark curiosity and inspire conversations around how we can assemble the future together.

The Nytillverkad collection will be available in-stores and online from July 2023, with more launches planned over the next few years.
