Gen Fill meets Barbiecore

With ‘Barbiecore’ searches up by 980% on Pinterest in the last month and the same term driving 653M+ views on TikTok to-date, the hot pink trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The polished, pastel backdrops and overwhelmingly pink wonderland may seem out of reach for the ordinary person, but thanks to Adobe Photoshop’s new Generative Fill feature, you’re just a few clicks away from being in a hot pink world.

Whether you want to transform your home into your own iconic dreamhouse or transport your hot pink outfits to an out-of-this-world pink dimension, Adobe Photoshop’s Generative Fill is on hand to bring you closer to this nostalgic, hyper-feminine trend.

From saturated shades of fuchsia to that signature bubblegum pink hue, the new Firefly generative AI technology makes this aesthetic phenomenon accessible to all. Barbiecore is no longer confined to the realms of the film sets, as Adobe Photoshop users can use simple text prompts to create, add, or remove mages, to bring their Barbiecore visions to life.

In the spirit of all things Barbiecore, Adobe has partnered with fashion creators Merkurial Girls to show how you can ‘Barbie-fy’ your life with a Generative Fill makeover. See what they dreamt up below:

Merkurial Girls ride the virtual, vibrant pink wave

Fashion gurus and best friends Merkurial Girls transported themselves to various vibrant pink locations all with a few simple clicks using Generative Fill. From a Miami poolside, to a pink party mansion, to a bubblegum pink dressing room of dreams…

How to use Generative Fill on Photoshop

Add more to anything, anywhere on your image.

Extend images to turn a vertical shot into a wide horizontal image, change a background, update an outfit or even add generated objects to an image with a short description.

High-quality creations, low time commitment.

Save hours of time bringing photorealistic or surrealistic ideas to life. Generative Fill adds and creates with appropriate shadows, reflections, lighting and perspective to give you stunning results that need much less editing.

Refine, retouch, rework.

Add yellow (or pink!) lines to a pavement or a wistful mist to an image with a text prompt and then make adjustments at the click of a button. Generated content is added on a new layer so you can edit, refine or remove any creation without damaging the original image.

Cut out unwanted elements with ease.

Remove stray shadows from a photo or trim an extra tree from a generated AI image quickly. Simply select what you want to cut and Generative Fill will replace it with content that makes sense for the image — from a longer bookshelf to a blue sky.
