As always, the biggest award show of the year did not disappoint with countless stars, great awards, and of course some of the year’s greatest fashion. However, like every good award show, some guests always miss the mark and create some rather infamous fashion memories. Let’s go through some of last night’s.
Anna Kendrick looked absolutely stunning in a coral Thakoon gown as she made her way down the carpet at the 87th Academy Awards. Kendrick has been very honest about not wanting her looks critiqued when she is going out for film roles, but it would be hard to complain about the Pitch Perfect star’s looks. The flowy gown complimented her figure, while the small keyhole slits at the front and back of the gown showed the perfect amount of skin.
Joining Anna atop the best dressed list in Margot Robbie. The Aussie native wore an amazing black Saint Laurent gown with sheer sleeves and a plunging neckline worthy of Beyoncé. The Wolf of Wall Street actress also showed off a new haircut; her bright blonde locks have been chopped off into a beautiful bob that really compliments her face shape.
No surprise, Meryl Streep looked more elegant than ever in her business formal, two-toned gown. We could have done without the blazer on top, but it was raining and she is Meryl Streep. She could channel her inner Ke$ha, show up wearing a garbage bag, and still kill on the carpet.
Southern Belle Reese Witherspoon looked beautiful as ever, sporting a monochrome Tom Ford gown and keeping her hair and makeup simple yet gorgeous.
Gwyneth Paltrow looked stunning as usual wearing a custom made Ralph & Russo couture one shoulder gown. Her sleek hair and gorgeous earrings finished off the look perfectly, Gwyneth nailed the art of standing out, without over-doing it.
The women were not the only ones rocking the carpet last night. Captain America himself Chris Evans looked even better than when he suits up beside his fellow Avengers. The simple black suit was complimented by an adorable bowtie, allowing Evans pretty obvious natural looks take over.
Host Neil Patrick Harris and his lovely husband David Burka, who both wore slim suits with bow ties, complimented his good looks. Burka chose a two toned suit and black bow tie, while the host chose to wear a lovely light grey suit. As a couple, they completely rocked the carpet.
Unfortunately, not everyone could take the fashion cues from their fellow performers. Lady Gaga, known for her outrageous garb, completely disappointed on the carpet. The large, white Alaia gown was custom made for the “Paparazzi†singer, but the ridiculous red gloves she chose to pair with it completely ruined the look.
The ladies were not the only ones who missed the mark. Jared Leto, a talented actor and musician, wore a wonderful lilac suit to last night’s awards, but the bold look was completely overshadowed by his long locks and overgrown beard.
Once again, the Oscars did not disappoint. There was amazing fashion from so many people, and just a few mishaps, but the incredible award ceremony will yet again be difficult to top.
