EX-EASTENDERS NITIN GANATRA & CADBURY CELEBRATE SHOPKEEPERS

From urgent milk runs to quick chocolate snacks, newsagents are always there for us. New research from Cadbury unveils that nine in ten Brits (90%) shop at local corner stores and visit them twice a week on average, with two thirds (68%) saying they rely on them, however over half (62%) admitted they don’t know their store worker’s name.

The research reveals more than four in five (86%) Brits say corner stores are an important part of their local community, with almost three quarters (72%) saying their corner store has saved their day by being open when other stores weren’t.

Former EastEnders star turned family-run newsagent worker, Nitin Ganatra OBE has joined forces with Cadbury, the nation’s favourite chocolate brand, to launch the Big Win Win. Together they are on a mission to celebrate and thank shopkeepers up and down the country for being the backbone of our communities. From when we want to treat ourselves to a bar of chocolate, to the times we need saving in a missing ingredient crisis, our corner shops remained open when most of the world shut and they’ve always got our back.

Known famously to many as Masood Ahmed from EastEnders, since leaving the show in 2019, Nitin has been helping out behind the counter at his brother’s corner shop in Coventry. He comments: “From my time shopping in Minute Mart on EastEnders to turning my focus to my family’s own newsagents, I can vouch that these stores are often taken for granted yet often are our saviours. I’m delighted to be working with Cadbury to champion and thank corner shops. A gesture of appreciation can make someone’s day, so I’m asking the nation to spark up a conversation with their local corner shop owner next time they pop in for a pint of milk, ask their name and get to know them.

The Big Win-Win is a chance for consumers to win cash prizes for them and their local corner shop from a total Cadbury prize pot of £150,000, through a nationwide competition. Open from now until 14th May 2023, simply buy a classic Cadbury chocolate bar – including Twirl, Wispa, Wispa Gold and Cadbury Dairy Milk bars for a chance to win a £500 or £1,000 cash prize for you and for your local shop.
