Envirotoy are fighting the plastic battle – one toy at a time

Today we look at a new company formed in 2019 which is taking the fight to the amount of plastic used within the children’s toy and game industry.

Around 8,000,000 tonnes of plastic finds its way into the world’s oceans each year. This is not just bottles and packaging – if you have ever done a beach plastic clean up, unfortunately, there is a good chance you will have found a plastic toy or two. Envirotoy will donate 1% of their sales revenue to the ocean plastic clean-up effort. The aim of the company is to reduce the number of toys which are produced using plastic, a figure which currently stands at 90% and also change the throw-away mentality surrounding children’s toys.

Envirotoy’s online shop contains beautiful, 100% plastic-free, eco-friendly toys and games made from wood and natural rubber only from carefully selected, trusted brands who responsibly source their materials and don’t use plastic in their packaging.

Whether it’s bath toy, a handcrafted London Bus, a Doctors set or even a beach bucket, Envirotoy has plastic-free alternatives in their shop for most toys you could imagine. We think that the beach bucket is what epitomises the idea behind envirotoy. Who’d have thought of a plastic-free beach bucket – there really are plastic-free alternatives out there!

When the Rubber tree finishes its latex producing life after roughly 25 years, they are used to produce the toys and a new tree is planted

The brands they sell often manufacture using a sustainable source of Rubberwood or other types of wood – one even makes toys using cork! With Rubberwood, when the Rubber tree finishes its latex producing life after roughly 25 years, they are used to produce the toys and a new tree is planted. A very sustainable process, especially when you consider the tree has also produced natural latex over its existence as well – as used by one of the brands they sell who make 100% natural rubber bath toys like ‘Ollie the Octopus’ which are completely PVC and BPA free too.
