This Captain Marvel themed cover heads back in time, with a 1990’s font in honour of the film taking place in 1995. This issue features interviews with stars Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson.
The marketing for this particular Marvel movie has been one of my favourites. I can’t deny that I am a huge fan of Captain Marvel and so I was already excited. Yet with each marketing release, I have somehow become even more hyped than before. Each trailer has managed to capture everything I love about her, I am especially fond of the Higher, Further, Faster TV spot that released during the Superbowl. Then there was the aesthetically 90’s themed website which was hilarious to see brought to life in this day and age. Then finally, we have reached EW’s go in which they recreate there own 90’s magazine feel.
On top of all that, EW sat down with Captain Marvel (out March 8) costars and real-life BFF’s Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson to talk aliens, Jedi masters, and the magnitude of Marvel Fame. The intergalactic odd couple forms the backbone of the highly anticipated instalment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Highlights include:
• Larson on her friendship with Jackson… “Marvel was like, ‘Is there anybody that you’d wanna do [the movie] with?'” And I was like, ‘Please. I need to be with my pal. Don’t let me do it alone!'”
• Larson on whether Jackson, a Marvel alum, gave her any advice… “…At the end of dinner, he had said nothing about it, and I was like, “Well, aren’t you gonna tell me some piece of advice?” He’s like, “No. Are you gonna give me advice?” I’m like, “No.” He was like, “You’re fine. Enjoy it.”
• Larson on the film’s theme of female friendship…” To show that, that’s incredibly powerful and gripping, and you could go to the ends of the Earth and fight till the end for your best friend … To me, that’s a part of what the meditation of this movie is: It’s female strength…”
Every superhero needs a pet cat sidekick…and Captain Marvel’s is the furry, scene-stealing feline, Goose:
• Larson on her unfortunate cat allergy… “It became this joke because the crew would watch me all day doing crazy stunts. But then the cat showed up on set and I was like, ‘We need to have a plan! We need to have a conversation!'”
If you head over to EW.com you will be able to exclusive video from the interview.
