We’ve come a long way in women’s rights in the past few decades. Now it’s time for them to make their moves on the pitch – the virtual pitch, that is.
Electronic Arts Inc announced today the video game franchise EA Sports FIFA 16 will feature 12 women’s national teams in the game, a first for the brand. The September 22, 2015 launch will include women’s teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and the USA.
David Ruther, Vice President and General Manager of EA Sports FIFA commented:
Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA SPORTS, and we are equally excited about bringing millions of fans a new way to play.
The game was designed with meticulous details given to capturing the exact movements of each character. This assures fans that they’re in for an authentic, life-like gaming experience when they choose their favorite players.
To give the game its life-like appearance, EA Canada held a motion capture session as well a as 360 degree body scanning rig with top players. The players’ involvement helped game designers to create new locomotion including new walks, runs, sprints, and horizontal movements. With this technology, FIFA 16 assures the players in the game will look and move in the game just like they do on the pitch.
To be one of the first female players included in the game is something we’ll always be able to look back on and be proud of” England captain Steph Houghton commented. “Hopefully it will help raise the profile of the women’s game even further.
