EA SPORTS FC 27 has taken the beautiful game to new heights, with Olympic gold medallist and Red Bull athlete Toby Roberts playing a match while abseiling more than 135 metres above London on the iconic London Eye.
Football can be played pretty much anywhere — but EA SPORTS FC 27 has now taken that idea to an entirely different level.
To celebrate the worldwide launch of EA SPORTS FC 27, which arrived on 25 September 2026, Olympic gold medallist and Red Bull climber Toby Roberts swapped the climbing wall for one of London’s most recognisable landmarks.
Roberts abseiled down the London Eye, more than 135 metres above the capital, while simultaneously taking part in a game of EA SPORTS FC 27.
The spectacular stunt brought together gaming, football and climbing for a unique celebration of the latest instalment in EA’s long-running football series.
Toby Roberts Takes EA SPORTS FC 27 to the London Eye!
With the River Thames, Big Ben and London’s skyline providing the backdrop, Roberts found himself in a rather unusual gaming setup as he descended the London Eye.
The Olympic gold medallist faced off against football content creators and broadcasters Brandon Smith and Jensennotbutton, turning what would normally be a sofa-based gaming session into a match played hundreds of feet above the city.
The stunt was designed to celebrate the global passion surrounding football and the idea that there is, quite literally, no ordinary place to play the game.
“I’ve Done Some Pretty Crazy Things”
For Roberts, the unusual gaming session added another memorable challenge to an already impressive list of experiences.
The climber said:
“I’ve done some pretty crazy things over the years, but hanging off the side of the London Eye while playing EA SPORTS FC 27 is definitely up there.”
Roberts also admitted that the incredible views of London came with one significant distraction, explaining that he spent much of his time trying to maintain his concentration while playing.
The athlete added that the stunt was a brilliant way to celebrate the launch of FC 27, while hoping fans enjoy playing the game as much as he does.
A Football Match 135 Metres Above London!
Roberts’ opponent, football broadcaster Brandon Smith, also admitted that playing against someone suspended from the London Eye was not exactly an everyday experience.
Smith said:
“It’s not every day you find yourself playing EA SPORTS FC 27 against someone abseiling the side of the London Eye.”
Despite the extraordinary surroundings, Smith said the match itself quickly began to feel surprisingly normal — highlighting the central idea behind the stunt: wherever you are, football remains football.
Whether you’re playing from your sofa or more than 135 metres above London, the game provides the same shared experience for fans.

From the London Eye to Your Living Room
The London Eye itself stands at 135 metres tall and has become one of the most recognisable landmarks in the capital since opening in 2000.
The attraction’s 32 capsules provide panoramic views across London, with millions of visitors having experienced the skyline from above.
For one afternoon, however, the London Eye became something slightly different — a very high-altitude gaming setup.
And while most EA SPORTS FC 27 players will probably stick to their sofas, Roberts has certainly demonstrated one alternative way to enjoy the World’s Game.
