What to drink now with Bacardi

To celebrate World Cocktail Day on May 13th 2018, BACARDÍ shares six winning rum cocktails made by top flight bartenders from around the world. From the delicious and refreshing ‘Venceremos’ cocktail made by Gn Chan in the USA to the sweet and sour masterpiece, ‘Made in Cuba’, by Tom Walker in the UK – rum is the only spirit you’ll be wanting to drink this World Cocktail Day.

Rum is the most mixable spirit so why not bring a taste of cocktail mastery to your home by recreating one or all of these winning cocktails. All cocktails in the list have been judged by drinks industry heavyweights at the annual BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition which first started in 2008 and has since grown into one of the world’s largest and most prestigious cocktail competitions, attracting thousands of entries.

Eric Van Beek from the Netherlands was this year’s BACARDÍ Legacy champion beating fellow competitors from 33 countries with his delicious Carinõ cocktail at the competition final in Mexico City last week. Carinõ becomes the tenth cocktail to join this prestigious stable of Legacy cocktails; honoured for their simplicity, replicability and timelessly delicious blend with BACARDÍ rum.

CARIÑO

by Eric Van Beek, Netherlands – 2018 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •        50ml BACARDÍ Gran Reserva 8 Años Rum
  •        30ml Greek Yoghurt
  •        20ml vanilla syrup
  •        10ml fresh lemon juice
  •        5ml Yellow Chartreuse

Method:

  •      Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake on ice
  •      Strain cocktail into coupette glass and serve over one large ice cube

 

CLARITA

by Ran Van Ongevalle, Belgium – 2017 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •     60ml BACARDÍ Gran Reserva 8 Años Rum
  •     10ml Amontillado sherry
  •     5ml Crème de cacao liqueur
  •     2 dashes of Absinthe
  •     1 dash of saline solution

Method:

  •      Fill glass with ice
  •      Add all ingredients to the glass in the same order as above
  •      Stir and strain cocktail into a chilled coupette glass
  •      Garnish with 3 drops of olive oil

 

VENCEREMOS

By Gn Chan, United States – 2016 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •   45ml BACARDÍ Carta Blanca
  •   15ml coconut liqueur
  •   25ml pineapple juice
  •   15ml cucumber juice
  •   5ml lime juice
  •  1 dash of sesame oil

 

Method:

  •        Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake until cold
  •        Pour into a Hurricane glass
  •        Add one large ice cube and garnish with pineapple leaves

 

LE LATIN

By Frank Dedieu, France – 2015 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •        45ml BACARDÍ Carta Blanca
  •        20ml white wine (Viognier preferred)
  •        20ml lemon juice
  •        6ml olive brine
  •        2 bar spoons sugar cane

Method:

  •        Add BACARDÍ Carta Blanca, white wine, lemon juice, sugar cane and olive brine to a cocktail shaker
  •        Shake all ingredients together and strain into a coupette glass
  •        Garnish with an olive

 

MAID IN CUBA

By Tom Walker, United Kingdom – 2014 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •     60ml BACARDÍ Carta Blanca
  •     6 mint leaves
  •     3 slices of cucumber
  •     45ml sweet and sour mix (15g sugar 2:1 30 fresh lime, infused for half a day)
  •     Absinthe spritz
  •     50ml soda

Method:

  •    Muddle cucumber into a Boston shaker, add mint and the rest of the ingredients except Absinthe and soda
  •    Add a block of ice to the shaker, shake hard, double strain into an Absinthe spritzed coupette glass, top with soda
  •    Garnish with cucumber and mint sprig

 

THE KNIGHT CUP

By Elizaveta Evdokimova, Russia – 2013 BACARDÍ Legacy winner

  •        60ml BACARDÍ Carta Blanca
  •        30ml artichoke liqueur
  •        15ml grenadine syrup
  •        7.5ml sugar syrup

Method:

  •        Place all ingredients into a pre-chilled or frozen mixing glass, add ice and stir well
  •        Pour into an old fashioned glass filled with ice and garnish with pomegranate leather
