The Dixon Brothers are a sibling DJ duo who bring life and energy to parties of all sizes with their turntable skills. Justin and Adrian have played together all over the world, building up a reputation as go-to DJs for everything from small clubs to huge events like Glastonbury. They also DJ each week for KISS FM, where they play music from a variety of different genres and bring the energy of their live events to radio. Verge caught up with Verge family members Dixon Brothers as they look ahead into 2018 with a new Sunday night show, 11pm on KISS Fresh.
The last 4 years have seen us champion new music and artists on the FM. Our new show airs every Sunday at 11pm, however it’s the ability to connect with KISS Fresh listeners in the digital word, on demand, 24/7 that’s an exciting opportunity for us. Our audience live in the digital world, so it makes sense for us to be right there ready to hit them with that good music.
What can we expect from your 1st show?
AD: We’re DJs first – so you can expect us to showcase the art of open format DJ’ing whilst delivering an energetic party vibe packed with all the new music we think yall should get familiar with
JD: First show will be flames, that’s for sure – being on Fresh means that we can be a little more edgy with the vibe; really looking forward to playing some bassy business!
How do you go about finding new music?
AD: We’re lucky to be in a position where artists and labels will send their music directly to us. However we haven’t forgotten or stepped away from the art of digging. You can find me most evenings sat on the couch in my boxers (sorry for the mental picture) searching the net for new heat that my not be on our radar.
AD: *Rolls eyes* The views of my brother are his and his only. I do not support or condone such behavior!
You guys do a weekly new music playlist with us at Verge Magazine on Spotify called 5 On Friday. Will that influence your new KISS Fresh show?
5 On Friday keeps us consistently searching for new music. A number of times artists that feature in 5 On Friday have found their way into our live sets and radio shows. This will continue as we build on KISS Fresh. With the focus for the show being primarily new music, you can expect us to be using listener feedback from 5 On Friday to create the best show possible.
What are you looking forward to the most having joined KISS Fresh?
JD: I’m really looking forward to doing what we do in the club, but on the radio. Being on Fresh allows us to be really upfront with the selection.
AD: Free snacks from our producer 🙂 In all seriousness, being on demand to the listener through the various digital platforms all day everyday has me hyped.
What can we expect in the future from you guys?
We have major plans for this year. We laid some really good foundations in 2017, made some great connects (Verge included of course!) and are ready to level up!! Don’t believe us just watch…
Any artists in particular that we should look out for in 2018?
AD: I think a lot of the producers who have been making a name for themselves on services such as DJ City, will make their marks this year. Ku De Ta, Freejak, Wide Awake are sure to keeping upping the levels! I’m looking forward to hearing what Jorja Smith puts out this year and how the UK continues to excel.
JD: I’m looking forward to the 20th anniversary of Goldie’s timeless this year. Can’t believe it’s been that long! Also I’m low key loving what Jayden Smith is doing right now…good times ahead!
