DIANA ROSS AND YOSHIKI SHARE RARE LIVE DUET OF ‘IF WE HOLD ON TOGETHER’

Diana Ross and YOSHIKI have joined forces for a rare live performance of Ross’s beloved song ‘If We Hold On Together’, with the emotional collaboration now available to watch online.

The performance, which took place during Diana Ross’s concert in Japan, sees the music icons share the stage for a special rendition of the timeless ballad.

Ross personally invited YOSHIKI to join her for the performance, bringing together her instantly recognisable vocals with the Japanese musician’s signature piano style.

The newly released footage gives fans the chance to experience the unexpected collaboration, which quickly became one of the standout moments of the concert.

The performance reportedly received a standing ovation, while the collaboration also attracted attention from fans across social media and international media.

Originally released by Ross in 1991 as part of the soundtrack to An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, ‘If We Hold On Together’ has remained one of her most recognisable songs. The new live interpretation gives the track a fresh dimension through YOSHIKI’s piano accompaniment.

A Meeting of Two Musical Icons

The collaboration brings together two artists whose careers have crossed generations, cultures and musical styles.

Ross has enjoyed a career spanning more than six decades, first rising to global fame as the lead singer of The Supremes before establishing herself as a hugely successful solo artist.

YOSHIKI, meanwhile, is best known as the co-founder, drummer and pianist of Japanese rock band X Japan, as well as for his extensive work as a composer and solo performer. His collaborations have frequently brought together artists from different musical backgrounds.

The pairing of Ross and YOSHIKI therefore offered a rare meeting of Western pop and Japanese rock, with the piano-led performance placing the focus firmly on the song’s emotional qualities.

‘If We Hold On Together’ Gets a New Interpretation

YOSHIKI has built much of his career around collaborations that cross musical and cultural boundaries, and his performance alongside Ross continues that tradition.

For Ross, the duet provides a new interpretation of a song that has remained an important part of her musical legacy.

The newly released footage preserves the special moment for fans who were unable to attend the original concert, offering a glimpse at two internationally celebrated performers sharing the stage.
