Deliveroo has announced it will this week introduce a new fundraising initiative in-app as part of its campaign to raise funds for the NHS and support NHS workers and vulnerable groups. This announcement marks the celebration of what would have been Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday today. Known as the ‘Lady with the Lamp’, Florence Nightingale is hailed as the founder of modern nursing and her remarkable legacy continues to be an inspiration to us all today.
To date, Deliveroo customers alone have generously raised over £500,000 which has been used to support its Support the NHS campaign, which has seen 250,000 free meals delivered to NHS hospitals and vulnerable communities across the UK, as well as over 50,000 £20 vouchers made available to NHS workers.
To make it even easier for customers to donate and get more free meals to the NHS, Deliveroo is introducing a new fundraising tool to enable customers to round up their bill to the nearest pound at checkout on the Deliveroo app. Rolling out on the app across this week, customers will be able to either round up their bill or will be given a choice of amounts they can add to their bill. All additional funds will go towards the cost of delivering meals to the NHS or new vouchers for NHS workers. Any excess funding will be given to the NHS directly. Deliveroo is making no profit whatsoever from this initiative.
To further mark the birth of the founder of modern nursing, and in recognition of the tireless, life threatening work of her modern-day counterparts, Deliveroo has also made another 30,000 £20 vouchers available to NHS workers to enjoy at home and after a long shift. This builds on a previous 50,000+ free vouchers for NHS workers.
In addition, Deliveroo made some special deliveries of 1,000 cupcakes made by Cakes Today for NHS hospitals in London, including St Bartholomew’s Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Kings College Hospital to honour Florence Nightingale’s milestone and celebrate the incredible ongoing work of NHS staff working on the frontline.
Deliveroo pledged to deliver 500,000 free meals to NHS staff with the support of its customers’ donations and corporate partners, including American Express.
