TikTok star and ‘professional greeter’ Troy Hawke left shoppers in Glasgow stunned last week after a surprise visit to Buchanan Galleries in the city centre.
Working with online travel agent loveholidays, Troy offered his trademark off the cuff compliments to unsuspecting passers-by, with a lucky few walking away with more than they bargained for after speaking to him.
Some of those who engaged in conversation with the well-mannered funnyman and self proclaimed president of the ‘Greeters Guild’ were given free holidays courtesy of loveholidays, with getaways to Mallorca, Tenerife, Rhodes, Budapest and Portugal all on the cards.
Troy, whose playful take on an aristocratic 1930s greeter has seen him gain hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok, has had a rapid rise to fame and recently performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Recent research by loveholidays revealed many Scottish holidaymakers aren’t letting the cost-living-crisis get in the way of their holiday dreams this year. A poll of 2,000 holidaymakers revealed that a third (32 per cent) of Scots are determined to still enjoy a ‘bucket list’ holiday this summer, with the average Scottish adult planning at least two getaways this year.
“I was delighted to give free holidays to the folk of Glasgow and the principal reaction was utter disbelief. Upon telling these people they’d just won a free holiday I was met with a long stare scanning my face for a catch before they were guided to the loveholidays folk nearby to have it confirmed. Even then I don’t think it sunk in for some of them!”

Escaping the doom and gloom back home is one of the key incentives for pushing forward with their dream holiday in 2023, with two in five (42 per cent) stating this as their main reason.
