Ahead of the Wimbledon Ladies’ Semi-Finals, Chyrpe, a dating platform designed for female-led relationships (FLRs), has launched a tongue-in-cheek campaign that questions the common belief that female-led relationships are exclusively linked to BDSM or kink culture.
The campaign, dubbed “WimbleDOM”, features a polished woman dressed as a stylish Wimbledon spectator alongside her devoted partner, who sports traditional Wimbledon whites combined with a tennis ball gag, leash and whip. While the imagery is deliberately theatrical, the message behind the campaign is considerably broader.
According to Chyrpe, female-led relationships are increasingly becoming part of mainstream dating culture, with communication, trust and mutual agreement sitting at the heart of these dynamics rather than stereotypes associated with domination.
New Research Suggests Attitudes Towards Relationships Are Changing
The campaign is accompanied by new UK research commissioned by Chyrpe, revealing that attitudes towards relationship dynamics are evolving.
Among the headline findings:
- 47% of UK adults believe women are increasingly taking the lead in modern relationships.
- 33% say they would be open to a relationship that challenges traditional gender roles.
- 55% support the values associated with female-led relationships, including trust, communication and female empowerment.
- Nearly half (46%) remain unsure whether this type of relationship would suit them.
- 20% admit they wouldn’t be able to identify a female-led relationship simply by looking at a couple.
The findings also suggest many people may have already experienced aspects of a female-led relationship without recognising it. Chyrpe says around 22% of UK adults may currently be in—or have previously been in—a female-led relationship, while 33% of women could have experienced one without realising it.
Younger Generations Are Driving the Shift
The research points to a noticeable generational divide.
Around 60% of respondents believe relationship dynamics have become more fluid than in previous generations, while 52% of Gen Z respondents say traditional relationship roles are outdated compared with 35% of Gen X participants.
The data reflects wider cultural conversations around equality, communication and shared decision-making in relationships, with younger adults appearing increasingly open to alternatives to traditional gender expectations.
Misconceptions Around Female-Led Relationships Persist
Despite changing attitudes, misconceptions remain widespread.
One in five (22%) respondents still associate female-led relationships primarily with BDSM, whips and kink culture, while 38% say they do not associate the concept with anything in particular.
Chyrpe says this demonstrates a significant awareness gap, with many people overlooking that female-led relationships can simply involve agreed relationship dynamics where the woman takes a greater leadership role, built on mutual consent and communication.
Chyrpe Says FLRs Are Becoming More Mainstream
With more than two million downloads across more than 120 countries, Chyrpe believes interest in female-led dating continues to grow as relationship expectations evolve. The platform is designed specifically for people interested in female-led relationships, giving women greater control over interactions and prioritising verification and safety features.
Anya Yuri, Chief Marketing Officer at Chyrpe, said:
“There’s still a misconception that female-led relationships belong behind closed doors or in underground clubs, when in reality they’re part of everyday life. The woman sitting next to you on Centre Court or queuing for strawberries could easily be the one calling the shots at home.
“FLRs aren’t defined by stereotypes, they’re built on trust, communication and mutual agreement. With our WimbleDOM stunt, we’re using one of Britain’s most iconic sporting events to show that these relationships are becoming increasingly mainstream and far more common than many people realise.”
