As we get ready for the Bank Holiday it looks like Brits will be spending the weekend at home with a glass of wine. Three quarters of Brits (74%) prefer to stay at home listening to music (43%) and drinking wine (32%) than visiting a pub.
Our fav tune to enjoy a tipple with is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, with 20% of Brits going Scaramouche for a glass of wine according to a survey of 2,000 people by Jacob’s Creek.
Brits’ top five songs to accompany a glass of wine are:

- No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley (19%)
- Hey Jude by The Beatles (18%)
- Your Song by Elton John (16%)
- Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye (15%)
The survey also revealed that almost 2 in 5 (38%) Brits would be put off from going to a friend’s house if they were inviting somebody they didn’t know or weren’t able to spread out seating.
‘New normal’ has Brits go Scaramouche for a glass of wine
- Comedy movies (27%) and pop music (31%) are the perfect genres to accompany a glass wine
- Almost three quarters (74%) of Brits prefer staying at home at the weekends, rather than visiting a pub
- Over a third of Brits are most comfortable sharing an alcoholic drink with friends and family at home
- Listening to music and watching films together are Brits’ favourite form of safe entertainment
From alfresco to indoors, Brits are swapping pubs for at-home drinking with friends and family in a bid to balance social distancing rules and their social lives.
Despite pubs being open since 4th July, 74% of Brits admit preferring to stay at home at the weekend with their loved ones in an attempt to safely have fun, with less than 1 in 5 being confident going to pubs.
The survey of 2,000 people, by Australian wine brand Jacob’s Creek, found that Brits would rather spend time entertaining at home with friends and family with almost half (46%) willing to share a pizza and over a third (37%) comfortable enough to share a bottle of wine.
The top five forms of entertainment with friends are:
- Listening to music (43%)
- Watching films (41%)
- Drinking wine (32%) and having dinner (32%)
- Board games (22%)
- Games consoles (20%)
The survey also revealed that almost 2 in 5 (38%) of Brits would be put off from going to a friend’s house if they were inviting somebody they didn’t know or weren’t able to spread out seating.
Lockdown has also changed Britons’ drinking habits with friends and family, with many still being nervous about social distancing and turning to at-home drinking to relax and take their minds off the ‘new normal’. Research has revealed that pop music is the most popular genre of music that Brits feel go best with a glass of wine (31%), with a quarter (25%) saying R&B and Soul is the best soundtrack while sipping on a glass of wine at home.

But it’s not just music that is the perfect pairing to a glass of wine, watching films is Brit’s second form of entertainment at home with friends, with comedy (27%), thriller (21%) and action films (20%) the favourite genres.
