Ahead of the main Black Friday event this weekend, the tech expert retailer predicts more ‘tech treats’ will be snapped up by Brits looking for the best deals. By ‘tech treats’ Currys is referring to categories that can add a little entertainment or luxury to everyday lives, each seeing huge leaps in sales over the last two weeks, such games consoles (+131%), coffee machines (+105%), health and beauty tech (+190%) and even air fryers (+75%).

Essentials are also up by 15%, which is healthy growth, but data shows Brits are more into gaming, espressos and blow dryers than laptops, washing machines, floorcare and fridge freezers this year.

GAMING up 131% in sales

Currys has seen huge demand for consoles with sales up 131% in the last two weeks. This is likely due to the launch of software titles such as the new Call of Duty, with it taking four places in the Currys top sellers list so far, this Black Friday, in bundles and on its own.

HEALTH AND BEAUTY up 190% in sales

Lipstick effect during economic downturn, seems to extend to all health and beauty. To help balance out the cost-of-living crisis, the sales data indicates that Brits are turning to at-home beauty tools, with all beauty tools up 190%.

AIR FRYERS +75% in sales

The Air Fryer love-in shows no signs of abating, with sales up 75% in the last two weeks. This includes more people upgrading to Dual Zone machines, to cook bigger & better dishes for loved ones – with Dual Zone Air Fryers outselling last year’s favourite single drawer Air Fryer by 61%.

COFFEE MACHINES +105% in sales

Customers are continuing to enjoy and want great tasting coffee at home, with sales up 105% in the last two weeks.
