BRITAIN’S DOUBLES STAR AIMING FOR GLORY IN ATP LONDON SHOWDOWN

In the build-up to the Nitto ATP Finals, the LTA spoke with British doubles star Joe Salisbury about his fantastic 2019 campaign, his journey to becoming one of the top doubles players in the world, and why he’s looking forward to competing on the biggest stage, just a few miles from where he grew up in Putney.

Following a year that saw Salisbury and his partner Rajeev Ram shoot up the ATP Doubles rankings to number four in the world, as well as claiming titles in Dubai and then Vienna last month, the pair have now set their sights on victory in the final event of the season.

When asked about what it meant to be taking part in the Nitto ATP Finals, Salisbury said: “It’s incredible to be playing in the ATP Finals – not something I expected to be doing this early on in my career. I’ve been watching the finals on TV ever since I can remember. It’s such an incredible event, especially for me as I grew up just down the river in Putney, so to be here in my hometown playing in the finals, is a bit surreal to be honest. We have the belief that we can win the tournament but we know that there are a lot of other great teams here too.”

The annual Nitto ATP Finals will take place between the 10th and 17th November at London’s O2 arena and will showcase the eight top ranked players / partnerships from both the ATP singles and doubles tour. The players compete in a round robin group format, with the top two players / partnerships from each group going forward to the semi-finals, before the final on Sunday 17th November.

Salisbury and Ram will face number five seeds Raven Klassen and Michael Venus in the first match of the tournament at 12:00pm on Sunday 10th November.
