Verge Meets: Beta Rawk

Verge’s Andre Dixon speaks to world famous break dancer Beta Rawk about her career and the upcoming Red Bull BC One World Final in Poland.

B-Girl Beta from the USA will be judging Red Bull BC One World Final 2021. From USA, Beta Rawkuz is a member of Street Masters, Heart Breakerz, and MF Kidz crew.

Beta started breaking in 1995, at the age of 11 years old, inspired to start dancing by her older brother, who is also her hero, when he started dancing in a skate ring called ‘Hot Wheels.’ She got her breaking name, Beta Rawkuz (pronounced “Ruckus”) because of her aggressive battle style, which was also influenced by her older brother, Xeno The Battle AXE. Flex 9 was Beta’s mentor, who looked after her when she was young. He introduced her to hip-hop culture, and she says that he made breaking possible for her. In her breaking career, she says that she had an amazing peak of competition wins from the age of 19 to 24 years old.

She was the first B-Girl to win the prestigious Spy award, which was created in honour of legendary B-Boy Spy, from the Crazy Commandoes crew, and given out each year to B-Boys and B-Girls who were seen to have represented the art of breaking to the highest level of integrity.
