Back in May, Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn wore – what we assumed were – mainline Balmain pieces to the American Billboard Awards. Whilst we all lusted over their stunning outfits that a typical girl could only dream of wearing, Olivier Rousteing was holding a big secret about their ensembles. The models were in fact wearing clothes from the new Balmain X H&M collaboration, and the high street name has since given us a preview into what we can expect.
On H&M’s Instagram, we’ve seen a dress similar to the one Kim Kardashian wore to her hen ‘do in 2014, the intricate design and heavy embellishments look exactly like a mainline Balmain design. Also, we’ve been seeing a return of the Beetlejuice- like trousers lately, something which the 29 year old has brought back from his SS13 collection – Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner have both sported the notorious pattern for the designer. Elle UK also offered an insight, with a snap of a complete outfit from the collaboration where we saw THOSE striped trousers and a black, fluffy jacket.
The Balmain Army, made up of supermodels and hit singers, is to become the Balmain Nation, so prepare to see the hashtag all over social media in the next few months. Taylor Swift is the latest recruit to Olivier’s exclusive ‘army’, bringing the new collection to the entire audience of Swiftys, meaning more competition amongst fans to snap up the stunning designs.
H&M released a short clip, ahead of the collaboration launch, of Olivier Rousteing talking about the partnership where he says: “I’m an H&M boy, I’m the H&M generation, I was waiting for two or three hours to get the clothes†– basically, prepare to queue, people.
At a mere 29 years, Olivier is already a pioneer in the fashion stakes and he’s also extremely likeable. In an interview for British GQ, he speaks about the collection: “I still wear H&M and I just love its global nature and the vision it brings to the world, and I think it is great to mix my vision with their huge global platform… Balmain is super-expensive so it was really a challenge… It was a compromise but we made certain the quality was still there.â€
With half of the Kardashian clan on board with the designs, and Swifty as his latest recruit, excitement is an understatement in regards to this very special and highly anticipated collection.
