Verge were lucky enough to attend an event which showcased Sony’s Oscar-inspired makeup looks with amazing makeup artist Aimee Adams. Aimee is a leading celebrity make-up artist with a client list that includes everyone from Tom Ford, Elle Macpherson, Robert Downey Junior, Sienna Miller and Helen Mirren, to Ralph Fiennes, Michael Fassbender, and Rachel Weisz. Along with this, Aimee has also worked with a whole host of high-profile brands such as Burberry, Elizabeth Arden, Agent Provocateur, L’Oreal and Max Factor.
The Oscar inspired looks were specifically created to withstand the increased colour, contrast and detail of 4KTV. The BRAVIA 4k Ultra HD TV’s show four times the detail of Full HD – with this new technology , every imperfection is magnified, and there is definitely no room for a makeup mishap on the red carpet.  Aimee Adams is the perfect woman for this – she works with magnifying glasses, her own portable hand held bright lights, and even a strange contraption that fits on to the head which has both a magnifying glass and a light attached ; she will not miss a thing. Aimee tells us that checking your makeup in different lighting is absolutely essential not only for 4KTV makeup, but also for every day.  As we later find out in the 4KTV screening, lighting makes an incredible difference, and doing your makeup in a dark bedroom, in bathroom lighting, or on your daily commute will never produce good results!
Three models were lined up for Aimee’s masterclass – a blonde, a red head and a brunette. Aimee used these models to predict the looks that Oscar attendees Rosamund Pike, Julianne Moore and Felicity Jones would sport ahead of the Oscar’s which take place on Sunday 22nd February.
The look of Rosamund Pike focused on detail – Aimee predicts a very natural, golden girl next door look for Rosamund. Natural makeup is designed to enchance features on screen, allowing the expressions and features to radiate through – and now with 4k TV this is even more prominent.
For Julianne Moore’s look the focus was on colour – another aspect which is crucial for the 4K display. The look will really ‘pop’ on-screen without being too overbearing. A dash is enough when every detail is magnified to 4k standard.
Felicity Jones’s look focused on contrast. The eyes are the focus here – using metal tones – the lips are simple with a nude lipstick. Less is more – particularly in such a detailed picture.
      Rosamund Pike
For Rosamund Pike’s predicted look, Aimee begins with French moisturiser Avene Hydrating Serum followed by a Clarins foundation. Aimee recommends HD quality makeup for the 4k display – from brands such as Makeup Forever. However, regular foundations can work as long as applied carefully and lightly.
Aimee gives the model’s cheeks a subtle hint of colour using Laura Mercier’s Blusher Palette, a palette containing different shades of very natural, gorgeous blush – perfect for this natural look.
For the eyes, Aimee uses a light golden shade of Benefit’s cream eye shadow, followed by a Makeup Academy golden eye shadow to set.  Aimee completes the eye with a Primark False Lash Effect mascara.  As you can see, Aimee is no makeup snob.
Aimee uses a light under eye concealer to conceal any dark circles whilst still maintaining the natural look, essential for 4k. For the eyebrows – Aimee uses a Delilah eyebrow pencil followed by Benefit’s Gimmee Brow – a product that uses tiny fibres to create a fuller looking brow, but still remains natural enough to be used undetected for 4KTV.
To begin the Julianne Moore predicted look Aimee used a Bare Minerals tinted hydrating gel cream – which is launching in April. The cream was a perfect, natural base for the 4K display, and also has  SPF 30, which Aimee stressed is SUPER important – even in the winter. Aimee explained that UVA rays are able to travel through clouds and even windows – so make sure to use an SPF on your face throughout the seasons.
Aimee recommended to work in thin layers with the Tinted hydrating gel cream, and to do detail with a fine brush. 4K is about using less.
Over the cream base, a powder was applied to set it. Aimee recommends Cornsilk powder – which is so versatile it can be used on the lightest skin tones and the darkest without changing the colour of the base.
Aimee used a concealer from Paese, which she found online. She believes this is the best undereye concealer she has tried. Aimee reminds us: ‘I don’t care whose name is on it. I’m from the school of “what worksâ€. This is further when Aimee uses her favourite eyebrow pencil for a red head from.. wait for it… PRIMARK! Aimee praises Primark makeup, saying she uses their mascara, eyeshadows and brow pencils regularly.
Aimee lines the model’s lids using an Urban Decay 24/7 pencil, and reminds us to use eyeshadow over eyeliner – it is more forgiving and it sets the eyeliner!
Julianne’s look is all about the colour pop of the lips. For this, Aimee first uses a sugar scrub by Laura Geller to exfoliate, then follows this with a lipstick pen – of which Aimee is a big fan. She again says that brand is not important, and tells us that she has a whole host of lip pens from Revlon, the 99p Store, and Astra. After staining the lips, Aimee uses Rimmel’s 1000 Kisses lipliner, and then finishes the look with Magic Lips by Ultraglow – which Aimee claims is the best, long lasting red lipstick.
Julienne Moore’s predicted look is a classic – red lips with a simple eye.
Felicity Jones’s look is about definition. Aimee begins by mixing a Delilah primer with foundation and applying the mixture as a base.
On top of this, Aimee adds a subtle Laura Mercier cream blush from the Cream Blush Pallette – Aimee loves this product for it’s natural results, and claims it is the only blusher set you will need.
Under the eyes, Aimee carefully applies Nude Magique BB Concealer – a light concealer that won’t crease making it perfect for 4K TV displays. Aimee also uses this on her regular client and pal Tess Daly – we all know how stunning golden girl Tess looks!
For the smoky eye, Aimee begins with MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in shade ‘Constructivist’- a good brown base. With a smoky eye, layering is very important. Aimee applies Avon Supershock eyeliner over this base, and then applies another coat of MAC eyeshadow to set. Aimee’s methods are very interesting, she also says she has never used an eyeshadow brush, but instead uses the small sponge applicators that most people throw away! Nevertheless, the eye looks flawless after Aimee applies a strip lash from Ardell , and creates a cat flick from liquid eyeliner to finish. Fabulous.
For the brows, Aimee creates a natural look using the Clarins Eyebrow Palette. For 90s babies who have over-plucked, Aimee highly recommends using a brow serum called RapidBrow which really works. A lash serum is also available, aptly named RapidLash.
To complete the look, the lips are coloured a subtle yet beautiful nude, created with Givency Lipstick – in shade Beige Mousseline.
By looking at the 4K images, you can see just how perfect the make-up must be to look great on 4KTV. Aimee did an amazing job of showing how to create 4K perfect looks for the redcarpet. I think we could all use an Aimee Adams in our life..
