A smile is Contagious

First impressions count, so when we smile we all want to reveal super-white gleaming teeth, but its not all about being aesthetically pleasing; we need to know how to ‘get to the root’ of looking after our teeth. We got the chance to chat with Dr Marques – dentist extrodinaire – about what makes a healthy daily routine:

  1. Brush twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Anymore and you can wear the teeth away, any less the teeth and gums may suffer
  2. Spit out after brushing and do not rinse
  3. Clean daily between the teeth to below the gum line before tooth brushing. For small spaces between teeth use dental floss or tape and for larger spaces use interdental or single-tufted brushes
  4. I recommend using an electric toothbrush as they stop you from brushing too hard because they do the movements and pressure for you
  5. See your dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning because you cannot remove the scale (tartar/calculus) yourself once it hardens
  6. Use my Super Strong Teeth Whitening Paste as it contains calcium carbonate and silica for a natural experience (www.richardjmarques.com)
  7. Ensure the frequency and amount of sugary food and drinks is minimal
  8. Do not smoke as smoking increases the risk of periodontal disease, reduces benefits of treatment and increases the chance of losing teeth

What to Buy:

Diamond Whites Black edition Liquid (£9.99)  and Charcoal (£13.99) Both available at Superdrug

Richard Marques Super Strong Teeth Whitening Paste available at www.richardjmarques.com

What to eat:

  1. Eat white foods: Avoid pigmented foods such as beetroot & blueberries, and eat chicken, rice & fish to avoid staining your teeth.
  2. Drink water or milk: Water is a natural cleanser whilst the calcium in milk will help strengthen tool enamel and your jaw bone. You can also drink lemonade or tonic water, and white wine is better than red wine.
  3. Eat strawberries: Due to the Malic acid, which is a natural cleanser, these can naturally whiten your teeth
