Formula E’s Season 10 kicks off this weekend in Mexico, as one of the most-loved circuits on the calendar, Formula E and Mexico are a match made in heaven, with the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez delivering high drama and excitement making a fantastic opening round of the season.

Here are some previous wins and top moments:

Last year was the largest ever pole position margin

Mexico City E-Prix last year saw Lucas di Grassi claim pole position by a margin of 2.941 seconds. This was the largest ever pole position margin in Formula E, making it the best possible start in the GEN3 era.

Mexico City provides top-tier excitement and close wins

The Season 2 Mexico City E-Prix saw the closest winning margin in Formula E history (0.106s).

Mahindra and Porsche in pole position

The last five pole positions in Mexico City have been claimed by drivers racing for either Mahindra (3) or Porsche (2).

Despite this, only one of the past five winners has come from either team, with Pascal Wehrlein from Porsche in Season 8. The other winning drivers have come from the Andretti, Audi and Jaguar teams.

Is this finally Sebastein Buemi’s year?

Of the seven previous races in Mexico City, Sebastien Buemi has stood on the podium three times, which is more than any other driver. Buemi has previously held the following podium positions:

  • Season 2 – 2nd
  • Season 4 – 3rd
  • Season 6 – 3rd

What does a win in Mexico mean?

Reigning Champion Jake Dennis won last year in Mexico. However, it isn’t always a sign of things to come. Only in Seasons 2, 7 & 9 has the winner of Round 1 gone on to take the title.

Lucas di Grassi on top

Lucas di Grassi’s Season 3 win in Mexico from 15th on the grid is the lowest position any driver has won an E-Prix from. The Brazilian driver has the most wins in Mexico than any other driver, with three wins in seasons 5 and 3.

Front-row winners

Lucas di Grassi and Jake Dennis are the only Formula E champions to have started on the front row in Mexico City.

THE RACE TRACK

Mexico City is an integral part of the Formula E circuit

With the first race taking place in Season 2, Mexico City has been on the calendar every season since, apart from Season 7 (with Puebla filling the gap). Only Germany (16) and USA (13) have hosted more races than Mexico (8).

The track is the longest Formula E configuration in the 2024 calendar

The Hankook Mexico City E-Prix has previously run on four different track layouts, with the 2024 being the newest, including a chicane being added after Turn 8, down the back straight. That makes it the longest Formula E configuration around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez at 2.630km.

This track is at the highest point above sea-level since the first race in Mexico

Mexico City sits at an elevation of 2,240 metres. For context, this is higher than the length of the track layout used in Mexico City between Season 2 and Season 5 (2,092 metres).
