10 Summer Do’s and Don’ts

Summer is coming around the corner, and many of us are anticipating dressing lighter, laying out in the sun and just being outdoors. We have come up with some of our favorite do’s and dont’s that we hope will  fit your list.

Do go on warm evening walks or run. Nothing beats keeping fit outdoors and on that note;

Don’t go running during a heat wave – dehydration and pure miserableness will follow. Nothing like wanting to keel over and shrivel up into your terrible decision.

Do try different water sports. It can be intimidating at first to try something new, let alone being dragged behind a boat by a rope and being yanked forward balancing on a ski or board. It will be worth it, and you have full bragging rights when you are finally able to get up for a few glorious seconds.

Don’t forget to bring bottled water if you are going to be on a boat all day soaking up the sun with a crisp lager on the side. Nothing is worse than an all day party on a boat with your friends and realizing at the end of the day you haven’t had to use the loo – at all – all day. Hello feeling dizzy and miserable for days afterward. Flashback to last years 4th of July.

Do carry insect repellant. You never know when an all day outing might end with a firepit and smores. Buzz off mosquitoes!

Don’t try to beat everyone to a summer glow by tanning in a tanning bed. It’s called using sunscreen and laying out in the sun to get a nice natural glow. I don’t want to go into how a tanning bed is terrible for you. Just don’t.

Do join a summer sports league of some kind with your friends. First of all, it is something to look forward to every week, and it is an excuse to drink a couple of pints.

Don’t read or watch anything that involves sharks before going swimming. Your irrational fears will take over.

Do pack a summer survival kit. Such as your friendly and ever important sunscreen, aloe, insect repellant, makeup removal wipes, snacks to avoid hangriness and whatever else you can think of.

And one last ‘do’ for good measure;

Do set a destination goal. Summer is all about being adventurous – so if you are looking to go to an exotic place, festival, beachside resort or just visiting a new city, stay motivated by putting images or reminders of your goal around your room, laptop, and phone screensaver.
