The only thing better than finding a great song is finding a great cover of a song. Covers  are a tricky business. They’re very hit or miss, but sometimes you find one that is just as good – dare we say, sometimes better – than the original.
Thanks to Youtube, we can find dozens of videos of our favorite artists covering some of our favorite songs and mashups. From BBC’s Live Lounge to Miley Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Backyard Sessions, cover sessions are gaining a loyal following among the music community.
After spending an embarrassing amount of time procrastinating watching these cover videos, we figured we might as well turn it productive. Below you’ll find the 10Â best Youtube covers we’ve found…so far.
1. “Rather Be” – The 1975
Indie alt-rock darlings, The 1975, take on this Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne pop hit in BBC Radio’s live lounge. The cheeky, electric synth beats are replaced with a crooning saxophone and their signature ethereal sound. The result? A dark, alluring cover sure to give you chills.
2. “Black Skinhead” – Catfish and the BottlemenÂ
These Welsh rockers have a flare for nostalgia, as seen by their first album, which is packed with The Kooks inspired stadium-anthems. But in the BBC Live Lounge, the Catfish are phenomenally modern with this mashup. Kanye meets The Black Keys with a splash of Kasabian. Add a dash of leading man Van Mccann’s angsty howls and you’ve got yourself a cover that’s sure to be on repeat for quite some time.
3. “Dirrty” – Ed Sheeran
Xtina is given Sheeran’s signature acoustic touch in this Live Lounge session. We’ll admit we had our doubts when we heard the folk cutie was taking on the queen of pop, but we were swiftly won over. Ed’s plucky guitar and backup singers reinvent the already awesome energy behind this throwback track.
4. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” – Arctic Monkeys
Rocking neo-punk meets soulful R&B in this unexpectedly amazing cover. The kings of indie take to the Live Lounge to put their unique spin on Drake’s hit. The result is a hybrid that is surprisingly perfect.
5. “Summertime Sadness” – Miley Cyrus
The Happy Hippie herself shows her vocal chops in this Lana Del Rey cover. She nails the smoky twang that makes this rendition absolutely gorgeous.
6. “Story of My Life” – Lissie
This folk artist brings a bit of Norah Jones meets Lana Del Rey soul to this boy band classic. One of the best parts about a song cover is hearing an old song from a completely new perspective, and that’s exactly what the Illinois native does.
7. “Give Me Love” – Demi Lovato
The coverer becomes the covered as Demi Lovato takes on this Ed Sheeran ballad. Lovato brings her raw emotion and powerhouse voice to the 2011 track. When she performed it at iHeartRadio Live she attested to how much the song meant to her, and it shows in this performance.
8. “No Diggity” -Â Chet Faker
This Blackstreet classic gets its biggest makeover since Anna Kendrick and the other Barden Bellas took it on in the first Pitch Perfect. Chet Faker’s unexpected low-key, electronica touch is everything we need for a soothing night in.
9. “Kids” – The Kooks
MGMT’s electric pop hit meets the acoustic, Brit-pop flare of The Kooks. Simple production and delicate harmonies makes this cover just understated enough to be brilliant.
10. “Locked Out of Heaven” – Bastille
The “Pompeii” singers start this Bruno Mars cover with their signature synth pop sound and interesting harmonies. However, after the boys add in a few layers – including “Angels” by The Xx and “Diamonds” by RiRi, this cover quickly goes from good to incredible.
