The Young Women in Music

Last year was full of young talented women taking over the music industry. Stateside or here at home we have been spoilt for choice! We wanted to go through some of our favourite women in music today- although it wasn’t easy just picking a few.

STEFFLON DON

It’s impossible to not be captured by her style and flair. London’s finest, and soon to be the worlds favourite, female rapper has taken the music industry by storm. Since her debut mixtape ‘Real Ting’, we’ve expected great things and she has not disappointed. With massive features with Jax Jones and Demi Lovato under her belt, as well as her hit track with French Montana, we’re sure that 2018 will bring nothing but incredible things.

MABEL

Mabel has been in our sight for a while and we’re glad that last year was such a great year for her. Having hit record ‘Finders Keepers’ with Kojo Funds, and towards the end of the year featuring on Not3s ‘My Lover’ remix has put her in the driving seat. We’re excited for what this year will bring, we hope theres a summer tune in the works!

CHLOE X HALLE

These girls are our new obsession and 2018 is sure to be their year. Not only have they got Queen B by their side but they’ve also landed roles in ‘Black-ish’ spinoff ‘Grown-ish’, where they accompany Yara Shahidi in all types of college mischief. We have no doubt that these girls will be huge things this year!

JESSIE REYEZ

Jessie has caused serious waves in the music industry over the last few years. We fell in love with Jessie from her feature with producer Tim Suby- but then saw the true unstoppable force that is Jessie Reyez through her EP ‘Kiddo’ that was released last year. Since then her tear jerking ‘Figures’ video has over 16m views and she’s also featured on Calvin Harris’ album with ‘Hard To Love’. If you haven’t checked her out yet please do; not only is she a celeb favourite but her stories and messages are beautiful and empowering!

JORJA SMITH

The world has stopped over Jorja Smith as she’s been practically everywhere since working with Drake on his ‘More Life’ project. After she released ‘Blue Lights’ in 2016 it seemed like everyone fell in love with her beautiful soulful voice. She’s received a lot of love from Vogue, The Times and Complex and is due to hit the Coachella stage this year- meaning she’s probably going to have an even more powerful 2018.
