The Walking Dead is currently one of TV’s biggest shows around, loved by many for different reasons. So James Frazier helped make sure that fans could all truly celebrate this by creating the Walker Stalker Convention.
Walker Stalker Con, held across two days, is a chance for fans to head to a convention similar to most comic conventions but this time the focus is on one show, in particular, AMC’s The Walking Dead. There is so much that goes on at these conventions, but most of all, it is a chance for many fans to meet the real stars of the show. At this event, some of the biggest cast members attended, such as Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Jeffrey Dean Morgan, (Negan), Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) and many others as well.
This is the second time the convention has been brought over to the UK and it seems to have been a massive success once again. I was lucky enough to attend the event for the whole weekend along with many others. One of the many things I love about conventions, especially Walker Stalker Con, is the atmosphere. The entirety of Olympia was filled with people who all resonate with The Walking Dead whether it be the comic or the show but the excitement, passion and energy could be seen in every individual attendee. If you couldn’t see it you could definitely hear it from the screams of the crowd as they spotted Norman or Jeffery Dean Morgan looking over the balcony. Cosplayers were also a big part of Walker Stalker Con with some truly amazing looking people. If you didn’t meet any of the real guests, you definitely could have met some true look alike’s. Most Cosplayers are the friendliest of people as they are willing to pose for many pictures.
If you are looking to attend next year, there are a few things I’ll say that will help you out. There are queues and they will be long, but I can assure you it is all worth it. The best thing you can do is plan. If there are particular guests in mind you are wanting to meet, plan around them as best as possible. That’s why I must give a big shout out to all who volunteered at Walker Stalker Con, they are all happy to help with any troubles, photo clashes – anything – and they do it all for free. Truly shows the dedications the fans of The Walking Dead have.
There is something I think also deserves a mention. The Walking Dead fan community, especially at these events, is one of the reasons this convention is a truly wonderful experience. But even before the event began, the community all joined together on a Walker Stalker Con London Facebook page. This page was a place for all to gather and celebrate The Waking Dead, whether you were attending the convention or not. It was a place where people could ask questions, arrange meet-ups, discuss the show and so much more. I witnessed a lot of people get help to questions they couldn’t find answers too, swap tickets so that they didn’t clash and even make new friends.
So, if you are a fan of The Walking Dead and are thinking that this convention sounds like an amazing time, then be sure to look it up. A quick google should take you to the right place but if not you can always find the Facebook page and the fans will be willing to help. I truly had one of the best conventions experiences I have had when I attended and I look forward to attending again next year. Thank you to all who make events like this possible.
