How does it feel to be a rising US pop star? To be compared to Nick Jonas? To support two of the biggest girl bands on both sides of the water (Little Mix & Fifth Harmony, as if you didn’t know)? Well, there is one person who knows the answer to these question and that is fresh face music sensation Aleem! The journey from singing in high school to performing in front of a packed out O2 arena must be pretty surreal and we couldn’t wait to sit down with the rising star.
Supporting little mix is a pretty cool gig to land, tell us about that?
It was absolutely epic! Their fan base is extremely passionate and such a fun crowd to play to. Sharing the stage with such an accomplished act was truly an honour.
How did it all begin for Aleem?
I started writing and recording demos in Chicago whilst learning about the industry and what it took to be an artist. I moved out to Los Angeles with a few demos I had worked on, and from there I got signed by a manager, started to play show, write and record new music which helped me land some pretty big gigs!
What was it like performing across the U.K. with Fifth harmony?
It was also an incredible experience. Both groups have a die-hard fan base who were so welcoming and accepting towards a new and upcoming act and it was an amazing experience to share my music
What do you love about the U.K.?
I love that it’s huge melting pot of different races, religions and cultures. It’s so cool to be able to experience and meet people from such different backgrounds and I also love how accepting everyone is towards newcomers.
And obviously what do you not like? (We won’t tell anyone)
The gloomy weather can get a bit old.
What’s next? Can you tell us about your upcoming plans ?
I’m gearing up for my first solo tour this spring. It’s a 6 city tour that kicks of in London Feb, 28th and I am super stoked to hit the road again.
How would you describe your sound for those who aren’t yet familiar?
I like to classify my sound as a “hip pop” with a heavy singer/songwriter influence.
Have you always wanted to be in the industry?
Throughout my years, I’ve always wanted to be in the industry, just never thought i’d get to live it out! I’m definitely very appreciative and humbled by all of the opportunities I’ve had.
Any advice for our student readers who want to go into the music industry?
Stay sharp, stay rehearsed and stay hungry. You never know when and where your door will open, but when it does, be ready to seize your opportunity and DO NOT be afraid to take risks!
Aleem’s new single “Stranger Things” is out Feb 9th
