We all know of Nev Schulman from Catfish the documentary, and MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show, however, Nev has added another string to his already impressive bow by becoming the face of fashion brand Rocawear, and looking mighty fine whilst doing so. As a big fan of Catfish, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to speak to Nev about keeping it cool whilst modeling, his experience on Catfish, and his dream of being in Beyonce’s next video…(just kidding on that last one).
It is no secret that your television show is a hit, but now we know you are also a pretty great model. How did you like the experience?
It was definitely a lot of fun. As a guy, I don’t often get a chance to be pampered and fussed over so that was a nice change. However, to be honest, modeling is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
How were you first approached about joining Rocawear?
The distribution company for Rocawear in the UK, Iconix, were fans of the show and reached out to my representation to see if I would be interested.
Were you nervous when you first were asked to be a part of Rocawear?
I don’t know if I was nervous so much as surprised. I had not previously considered myself as some one who would be affiliated with that brand and I was worried that people would feel it was somewhat forced or disingenuous. I was probably more nervous just about the idea of modeling having never done it before.
It’s a pretty big name, surely that can get a little intimidating..?
Well, as fellow New Yorkers, Jay-Z and I know a thing or two about keeping cool in the face of intimidation.
Did you have a favorite piece from the collection? Maybe something you just had to take home?
Yeah the sweatpants I’m wearing right now that I basically haven’t taken off since I left. I think they call them joggers. I wear them when I travel, when I work out, go grocery shopping…
Is there another artist who is not part of the campaign that you would love to work with?
Sure. I was sorta hoping Beyonce would be in the shoot with me, but maybe I can be in her next video.
Good luck with that one Nev! Tell us about Catfish: what is your favorite part about hosting?
My favorite thing about hosting the show is having the opportunity to travel around the country, meeting different people from all types of backgrounds and seeing that no matter where you live, what your background is or what you believe in, most of us are a lot more similar to each other than we realize.
Has there ever been a couple that the show has introduced that you knew right off the bat, “these two should NOT be together”?
Most of the couples on the show probably…
Can we expect a directorial debut from you any time soon?
Unfortunately not. But I have been writing a lot lately for this great website called ATTN. Check out my editorial debut here: http://www.attn.com/stories/611/on-roadfast-food
