NBA Sundays : Boston Celtics @ New Orleans Pelicans

This week’s BT Sport Sunday night game features the Boston Celtics visiting the New Orleans Pelicans

Season so far:

Boston Celtics

The story of the season so far for the Celtics has very much been about injuries and that all started on opening night when they lost Gordon Hayward, their star free agent.

Due to the injuries this season it has been very difficult to understand at times how far this team can go. With everyone else outside of the Raptors faltering it seems in the Eastern Conference, they will still find themselves in very good shape come playoff time but they need to get healthy.

Leaders:

Points: Kyrie Irving 24.4

Rebounds:  Al Horford 7.6

Assists: Kyrie Irving 5.1

New Orleans Pelicans

When the Pelicans lost DeMarcus Cousins to injury on January 26, the general consensus was that their season was done and another year of not playing playoff basketball was about to happen again but Anthony Davis had other ideas.

Since the injury to Cousins, the Pelicans have gone 12-8 (including a 10 game winning streak) and that is largely due to Davis playing at an MVP level.

Leaders:

Points: Anthony Davis 28.0

Rebounds: DeMarcus Cousins 12.9

Assists: Rajon Rondo 7.7

Key Players:

Kyrie Irving (Celtics)

Kyrie sat out Friday night but is travelling with the team on this road trip and the Celtics really need him back, as this team is decimated due to injuries. Kyrie’s first season in Boston has been an interesting one and we will see how he handles the playoffs as the main man.

Anthony Davis (Pelicans)

During the recent 10 game winning streak, Davis had 5 games with at least 40 points/13 rebounds per game. He can carry this team but he will need some help from the rest of the Pelicans to ensure they aren’t just a one series and done in the playoffs.

Projected Starting Lineups:

Boston Celtics

  • Kyrie Irving
  • Jayson Tatum
  • Al Horford
  • Aron Baynes
  • Marcus Morris

New Orleans Pelicans

  • Nikola Mirotic
  • Anthony Davis
  • Rajon Rondo
  • Jrue Holliday
  • E’Twaun Moore

Final Thoughts:

If the Celtics have Kyrie back from injury then this game could go either way. If not, then I see the Pelicans winning this in a close one.
