In a special documentary for CNN Style, K-Pop superstar CL discussed the challenges overcoming racial and social barriers to forge a successful music career in America.
Shot by Grammy-award-winning director David Meyers, CL speaks to CNN Style on a range of issues, including identity, cultural appropriation, and her rise in America as an Asian musician.
CL meets fashion designers Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang and Luka Sabbat to discuss how an Asian superstar can break America in 2016.
Breaking America is serious now. I want to do it and I feel responsible in some kind of way… It’s the complete opposite of Asia. Because you know in Korea it’s, everything like is about yin yang and keeping the balance. There’s a saying in Asia, if you’re too strong you break. But here, I feel like it is about being too strong. I want to see how I could take that yin yang and do it here.
