The spot of “Artist of the Week” this week goes to an emerging artist. Though she’s no household name, yet, her sultry voice and bluesy lyrics will have you placing her at the caliber of Lauryn Hill or Macy Gray. Stella Santana, better known as simply STELLA, puts a new face in R&B with an alternative flare. Her dream-like sonance and repetitious beats that her raspy voice dances through taps into the listeners emotions making one feel as vulnerable as her voice sounds.
Daughter of the legendary enlightened guitar player Carlos Santana, she’s no one new to the ins and outs of the music industry, though she’s paving quite her own path. Growing up with a “free love” lifestyle, her father inadvertently taught her how to write and sing the way she does from the heart with soul.
About 2 years ago, the 30 year old singer/songwriter started seriously pursuing music. After moving to New York, she soon after released her first single, “The Reason,” which kept with her bay area roots exhibiting a west coast relaxed vibe.
Recently she has just released her new track/music video for ‘New Toy’. The song parallels, in Toy Story fashion, children and how they easily let go of their old toys for new ones to people letting go of someone for something “shiny and new.”
Keep an eye out for this up and coming artist. Her brand new album Selfish is set to be released soon and she will also be performing a FREE concert this upcoming week at the Old Blue Last in London on Feb. 24th.
